Director Biography - D. Rica Wilson, Kiyla O Mighty, Justin C Hardee

Dr. D. Rica Wilson is a mother, strategist, and passionate advocate for human rights with over 20 years in the nonprofit and education sectors. As Executive Director, she leads initiatives that uplift hardworking families, people with disabilities, and underserved communities. Her experience as a public school teacher, university professor, and nonprofit leader has deepened her belief in the power of storytelling to drive lasting change. Dr. Wilson holds a B.A. in English from St. Augustine’s University, an M.A. in English (TESL) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a Doctorate in Ministry. She also earned certificates in Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Mind Body Medicine, and Women's Entrepreneurship from Cornell University. A proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Dr. Wilson enjoys cooking, traveling, and time with loved ones. She is driven by purpose and compassion, inspiring others to believe in the possibility of real, meaningful change.

Kiyla Mighty, 18, is an honor student, athlete, and creative force from Woodstock, Georgia. As a full-time student-athlete at South Carolina State University, she earned an athletic scholarship while pursuing a degree in Biology with a focus on Applied Oncology Research—setting her sights on a career as an anesthesiologist. Kiyla’s curiosity extends beyond the classroom and the court: she is a driving presence on the Campus Activities Board’s “Coffeehouse” Committee, bringing energy and fresh ideas to campus events. Her commitment to community is just as strong—she volunteers at youth volleyball camps both at home and at school, mentoring the next generation. Kiyla also serves as youth co-director of the documentary Dear Baltimore, lending her voice and vision to a powerful story. With a rare blend of intellect, leadership, and heart, Kiyla Mighty stands out as a true modern renaissance woman—always learning, always leading, and always inspiring others.

Justin C. is a 12-year-old distinguished honor roll student with a passion for learning and creativity. On the soccer field, he’s known for his skill and team spirit. Off the field, Justin is a youth philanthropist and humanitarian, always looking for ways to help others and give back to his community. He loves building Legos and tackling other creative projects, turning his imagination into reality and inspiring those around him to do the same.

I know what poverty feels like—its taste, its smell, the way it settles around a family’s kitchen table. My name is Dr. D. Rica Wilson, and I have lived this reality. As a passionate advocate for justice, I am driven to move the conversation beyond the common touch, taking it past city streets and bringing it to the screen to amplify voices the world too often ignores. Through my work, I strive to create a platform for invisible women and youth, allowing them to share their raw, unfiltered stories.My commitment goes beyond rural borders and the white picket fences that so often seem reserved for the rich and unoppressed. Rooted in my Gullah-Geechee heritage, I honor the traditions I come from—not just the sweetgrass baskets and artisan creations, but the resilience, pain, and hope that define our communities. I believe there is so much more to our story than what’s on display.Storytelling is how I weave these truths together, revealing the American story of families treading water under the weight of oppression and poverty. By giving space for these stories—full of heartbreak, endurance, and hope—I hope to help us all see what has been hidden in plain sight and inspire change where it’s needed most.
