Director Biography - Ray Jones

Ray Jones is a filmmaker based in the DMV area, originally from Guyana. He creates short films that explore perspective, identity, and the many ways people experience the world around them. His work is grounded in honest, human storytelling, with a focus on emotional clarity and visual intimacy. He is currently building toward a transition into feature filmmaking.

He earned his degree in Media, Journalism, and Film with a specialization in TV and Film Production from Howard University, where he received the Exemplary Filmmaker Award. His work has also been recognized at international festivals, including the International Christian Film Festival and the Christian Worldview Film Festival.

Director Statement

On The Inside is a seven-minute short film exploring inner beauty, sisterhood, and the power of embracing what makes us unique. The story follows Tiffany, a self-proclaimed tomboy, as she prepares for a date set up by her sister.

The film is quiet and observational, with 99% of it shot on a tripod. We intentionally chose a still, grounded visual style to sit with our protagonist as she moves through the emotional rhythms of her day, allowing the audience to fully experience her internal world without distraction.

The project was created by an all-Black cast and crew, comprised of 80% women. Principal photography took place over a single day in Bowie, Maryland. Our house location was generously provided at no cost, and the team pooled resources to ensure we had everything needed to bring the vision to life.
