Give as a gift
A couple seeking a fresh start in the countryside soon discover a mirror that twists their reality inside out. A young care worker takes on a dying man’s final days—only to uncover secrets that refuse to stay buried. A musician battling writer’s block becomes haunted by a muse he cannot escape, and a psychologist’s grip on sanity unravels after a devastating accident.
Told in four distinct yet thematically intertwined chapters, this contemporary horror anthology reimagines the dark undercurrents of Hans Christian Andersen’s tales. Each story explores fate, obsession, love, and loss—drawing its characters toward revelations as haunting as they are unforgettable.
A stylish, atmospheric, and emotionally charged horror experience—perfect for anyone looking for something chilling, intelligent, and unsettling to rent tonight.
Director Statement
This project was born out of a number of motivating factors. For one, the idea of collaborating with other directors was intriguing to all of us. ADORABLE HUMANS is not a typical horror-anthology, produced by isolated hubs resulting in wildly varying chapters. Instead this film was a collaboration from the very beginning.
Even though each chapter was written and directed by a different director, everybody was in contact from the start. We gave each other feedback on scripts, we worked on tying the stories together and were in constant dialogue during production and post-production. Because we wanted to create a cohesive film, the decision was also made early on to have key crew members work across the whole film. As such the film may have four directors, but it only has two DOP's, one sound designer, one composer and one colorist.
A second thing was the opportunity to deep dive into the work of H.C. Andersen. There's a fascinating dark side to the scribe that is often overlooked, both here in Denmark and abroad. Coinciding with the 150 year anniversary of Andersen's death, it felt like the right time to explore this aspect of Andersen's work and maybe open a few minds to the fact that Denmark's most famous author was way more than a writer of fairy tales for children.
