Fortunata, a book-loving teenager with a heightened sensitivity, lives with her mother, who appears loving and attentive to her needs but is in fact cynical and amoral. Every day, her mother makes her daughte to prostitute, amid the silence of the neighborhood and the transient guests who stay for only a few hours. One day, a parish priest arrives at the house of horrors, ready to save the girl—or so it seems.
