Growing older, landing the dream job, catching a flight, surviving a wedding, delivering cupcakes and adopting a cat—what could possibly go wrong? Quite a lot, thankfully.
Babs Daitch is eighty years young and still moving faster than everyone around her. Winona has minutes before a dream interview and decides birds should make his decisions for him. Muhammad only wants to catch his flight—but airport security has other ideas. A trusted wedding-day guard discovers exactly from whom he should have been guarding the family gold. Chad puts on the princess dress, picks up the cupcakes and watches his day collapse, one humiliation at a time. Max convinces his friend Joy to join him in getting a cosmetic procedure and then hiding away in Palm Springs over the holidays to convalesce. And Jules and Mimi welcome an adorable cat into their home, only to discover that his preferred food is human.
Meet Babs, an optimistic octogenarian speed-racing through life, one five-year plan at a time.
Thanks, Babs! is a vibrant 15-minute documentary short following Babs Daitch, an optimistic octogenarian who lives her life in perpetual motion. From lap-dancing at her “41st anniversary of her 39th birthday” to reflecting on mortality in San Francisco’s AIDS Memorial Grove, Babs embraces aging with mischief, humor, and curiosity. The film culminates in the long-awaited maiden voyage of her live-aboard 40-foot motor cruiser, a scene by turns both comedic and triumphant. A story of reinvention, resilience, and refusing to slow down, Thanks, Babs! celebrates a woman who proves that life at eighty isn’t about endings, but about steering into the next adventure.
