Across borders and generations, family can be a source of comfort, conflict, obligation and unexpected transformation. These seven stories explore the intimate—and sometimes unconventional—connections through which we discover who we are.

On a deserted beach, 16-year-old Aurora and her mother spend a revealing day discussing sex, love and the shifting boundary between parent and friend. A trans man caring for his father finds an unexpected opportunity for reconnection when alcohol-induced dementia grants him temporary anonymity. Alannah and her wife, Amara, plunge into the chaotic world of sperm donors, DIY insemination and awkward conversations as they try to start a family. In Pune, a pickpocket who uses seduction to distract his victims meets a soft-spoken student whose tenderness forces him to confront desires he has long suppressed. Expecting an uneventful Jummah, Safa becomes trapped between her overbearing family and an angry ex. In a Welsh fishing village, a young Shirley Bassey impersonator and a fisherman are swept into a secret romance, battling family expectations and tradition as they search for the courage to claim their happiness. And the comfortable routine shared by Vanessa, her disabled brother, Diego, and their strong-willed father is disrupted by Diego’s sexual awakening.

Expecting another uneventful Jummah, Safa finds herself trapped between her overbearing family and an angry ex.
