Director Statement
In summer 2024, my close friend was diagnosed with a long-term, incurable STD. Witnessing her coping and coming to terms with the new reality of her life made me realize how isolating this type of experience can be, especially for a young person still forming her personal identity.
I wanted to tell this story to show how easily these scary, taboo topics can suddenly become reality. The stigma around STDs and sexual health makes it especially difficult to seek out information or ask for help. In particular, many men refuse to seek help to avoid seeming vulnerable or soft. This pervasive mentality encourages people who have long-term diagnoses to suffer in silence, leading to shame, insecurity, and loneliness.
This film depicts someone who is suddenly forced to navigate a world of unknowns after receiving a long-term diagnosis. It is meant to emphasize the process of shock, anger, and acceptance and I hope that it helps audiences realize that, even when it seems impossible, there is light at the end of the darkest tunnels.
