Director Statement

There is a quote I’ve heard that changed the way I want to approach my creative work, “What kind of art are you making when there’s a genocide happening?” It’s didactic, yes, but it confronts today’s artist with a moral question that we should all be asking ourselves, “What do I want to contribute to the world we live in?” Being able to make and share art publicly is a privilege that not everyone has. It is everyone’s responsibility to make art that contributes to finding a solution to the world’s issues rather than ignoring, or god forbid, intensifying them. Filmmaking is the culmination of all the art forms, making it the perfect tool for building communities. My work is always going to shine a light on neglected demographics and expose oppression. We can do this by working directly with those communities and collaborating with them to make a representative and impactful story.
