Director Biography - Walter Johnson Jr.

Walter Johnson Jr. is an award-winning filmmaker, cinematographer, producer, editor, audio engineer, visual artist, and storyteller whose work explores creativity, culture, faith, innovation, and the human experience.

With a career spanning broadcast media, television, documentary filmmaking, podcasting, and international production, Johnson has spent decades crafting stories that connect audiences across generations and backgrounds. His journey began in radio, where he worked alongside legendary broadcasters including Rick Dees, Tom Joyner, and Ron Chapman, helping create content heard by millions of listeners nationwide.

Over the years, he has produced and edited content for influential voices including D. L. Hughley, Erica Campbell, Al Sharpton, A. R. Bernard, Sherri Shepherd, Kym Whitley, Michelle Williams and Joy-Ann Reid. His production work has also included projects for major organizations such as American Heart Association, and USA Today.

As a filmmaker, Johnson is known for combining cinematic visuals with deeply human storytelling. His work has taken him around the world, filming and producing content throughout Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and North America, including projects in Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Egypt, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Barbados, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Alaska, and beyond.

A multidisciplinary creative, Johnson is also a painter, sculptor, author, and advocate for the transformative power of creativity. Colors & Curves began with a simple question: what happens when we lose our creativity—and what happens when we find it again?

As I interviewed children, educators, entrepreneurs, artists, scientists, and innovators, I discovered that creativity is far more than an artistic skill. It is a fundamental human ability that drives problem-solving, innovation, growth, and progress.

The title Colors & Curves represents the tension between conformity and imagination. Straight lines symbolize structure and predictability; colors and curves represent curiosity, exploration, and new possibilities. Both are necessary, but too often we lose touch with the creative instincts we are born with.

This film is an invitation to remember that creativity is not a gift reserved for a few—it is a birthright shared by all. My hope is that audiences leave inspired to reclaim their imagination, embrace their unique perspective, and see creativity as an essential force for shaping the future.
