"We Rise Together" is a story of solidarity and common struggle between:

• Phoeun You, a Cambodian refugee, who has no recollection of a country he fled at age 4. He grew up in the U.S., bullied and traumatized by gang violence. Convicted of a shooting, he served 27 years in San Quentin. Despite having served his time, he was then deported to Cambodia, now lives separated from his family.

• API RISE, a successful community re-entry organization of formerly incarcerated or detained Asian immigrants/refugees, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. Members share histories of facing poverty and racism, and their bond of resilience and compassion.

• Nikkei Progressives, a grassroots, multigenerational organization that unites the Japanese American community. It advocates for migrants held at the ICE detention center in Adelanto, and draws parallels between the government’s incarceration of 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry during World War II, and the current attack on immigrants.

The goal of the video is to advocate for Phoeun's pardon, and to educate the viewer about the unjust treatment of over 16,000 Southeast Asians at risk of deportation.
