Anna, a twelve-year-old Ukrainian gymnast, has fled her war-torn country and recently settled in Montreal with her mother, younger brother, and grandmother. Confronted by the past, the challenges of exile, and her deep need for belonging, she seeks to rebuild her identity and regain her balance. Through her child’s perspective, the documentary explores the reality of life after war, questioning what endures and what is missing, even when one has found refuge.

Collecting recyclables to pay for chemo treatments is not what Ernesto had envisioned when he legally entered the United States to provide a better life for his wife and two daughters. With one of his daughters sick with leukemia, he has no other choice but to stay in the United States and send every penny home to the Philippines. With medical bills due, Ernesto must race from dumpster to dumpster to pay for the day's treatment. Hoosier-born director Colin Whitman graduated from Noblesville in 2003.

Diminishing Returns

Out of time and options, Ernesto tries to keeps a positive outlook while he hunts the streets and dumpsters of Los Angeles for enough recyclables to pay for his daughter's medical treatment back home in the Philippines.
