We begin in SKY HEADQUARTERS: the liminal-yet-comforting place where souls are created, placed into bodies, and sent to earth to live their first of many lifetimes. SOUL #659, a glowing orange orb, enters a body for the first time and is ushered to the EARTH PORTAL by two souls named THREE and SEVEN. Three and Seven reveal that, on earth, 659 will be a woman named MARGOT. Before “Margot” can ask any questions, Three and Seven shove them through the portal. On earth, Margot lives a lifetime. She grows, cries, falls in love. Her life is clumsy, but full. Then, at age 30, Margot dies unexpectedly.

Margot tumbles back into Sky HQ, where Three and Seven congratulate her on finishing her first lifetime and begin prepping her for her second. Not ready to let go, Margot makes a plan to kill LEAH, the woman she loved on earth. That way, they’ll start their next lives together... and Margot will get to hold on to a piece of her first life. Margot poisons Leah with carbon monoxide. But the horrible sight of Leah’s dying body forces Margot to face how much life is really worth—even Margot’s own very short one. She brings Leah back to life. Full of grief, Margot sheds her body—turning into the glowing orb we first met. 659 has finally let go of their first lifetime and is ready to start anew, aware of the joy and heartache waiting for them on earth.
