Statues tells a story of arrogance and egotism that lurk deep within the friendliest of characters. The entire plot takes place on the rooftop of a house inhabited by the Artist, who has no idea that his clay sculptures can move when nobody is watching. Two of them are particularly feisty - the older one wishes to spend their twillight years in peace, the younger can't sit still. When they come to life - a great dispute over the central place of the roof begins. Their fights result in many cracks which are meticulously fixed by the Artist. He uses a technique called "kintsugi". The title is a wordplay: it merges two main themes of the story - "statues" and "status".
